"I was the worst kid on my 6th grade basketball team. I passed the ball to wrong team and they scored at the buzzer in double over time to win the championship. Its one of those memories that still makes you squirm when you think about it!"

"When I first saw [High School Musical], I didn’t even notice there wasn’t a kiss! I guess it’s implied. To tell you the truth, the whole thing was kind of an accident. I don’t know what you’ve heard, but Troy and Gabriella DID kiss at the end of the movie. However, leaving it out of the final movie left some intrigue. Now you’ll just have to watch the sequel to find out what happens."
"Here’s a saying that used in all the way through school: “keep your friends close, but keep your teachers closer.” Teachers are people too. Get to know them. Well. Don’t “suck up,” but develop a relationship with each one individually. If you do a good job, the teachers feel morally obligated to give you every possible advantage in their class… oh come on. Everyone knows it; I’m just saying it."
"The only time I felt self-conscious during HSM was in the dances. I was always ten steps behind. So eventually I just put in the extra hours and forced myself to get better."
"Being an actor sounds glamorous but its hard work and lots of rejection. You have to really love it to be in this business."
"I read somewhere online that I had died. That was really wild! And to set the record straight – I am very much alive."
"I was the worst kid on my 6th grade basketball team. I passed the ball to wrong team and they scored at the buzzer in double over time to win the championship. Its one of those memories that still makes you squirm when you think about it!"
"I think if a girl is easy to talk to then that's the first thing I look for. It's great when you meet a girl and three hours later you're like, "Oh my gosh, we've been talking for three hours, what happened to the time?" I just think that is a great connection and you know there is potential there."
"My dogs are crazy. They're always getting into some kind of trouble... but then again, they're my most loyal friends."
"I bought an electric scooter in sixth grade. Bankrupted me."
"[After finishing filming HSM] it was so hard not to be able to go to the hotel room next door and knock. If I could go back and do it again I'd do it in a heartbeat."
"[When dared] I'll eat just about anything - like blending up steak and apples, and then drinking it."
"Link brings the cool element."
"She[Zac's mom] told me about the boys back then, and I did a lot of winks and stuff that was cool back in the day."
"They put this stuff into my hair that turned it into a rock. I had to run hot water over it for five minutes to loosen it!"
"I goof off with my little brother and show up at the dinner table to a nice plate of food."
"Musicals are my bread and butter. They're fun - and they're even more fun to make!"
"I've been doing a lot of hanging out, skateboarding, and just relaxing."
"I got a playstation 3, so I've been playing that a lot. But I'm so ready to get back to work. I can't wait to sing, dance, and act, and get back into the swing of things."
"The lady from my driving test was stone cold. I cracked a cheesy joke and she didn't laugh at all. It was a nerve wracking situation and I had to drive all around with this angry woman grading everything I did."
"I sing all day. I wake up, I sing in the shower. If I'm home and I'm alone, I'm in my own concert. Singing's just something I do. Its a big part of my life."
"I sing in the shower."
"High School Musical 2 has gone really, really well!"
"My character was especially fun to play because he's sort of the iconic character from the '60s. He's kind of like a Danny Zuko-he's one of te guys you'd find in the Grease gang!"
"The director asked me to gain 10 pounds, so I was a lot heavier throughout the film. It works great for the character. It was so hard, though! I just lifted weights and ate lots of food."
"I'd describe myself as an excellent boyfriend!"
"I'm enjoying the summers of my late teens!"
"My first Summerlandscene was a makeout scene!"
"My first kiss was in a fifth grade in a tree fort!"
"I had a really great time filming this movie![Hairspray]"
"I'd flip out if I got a B instead of an A!"
"Everything is completley different when you're around people that are like your family."
"As long as I stay boring, I think I'll be fine."
"I'm still so new to this, it's literally a one-in-a-million chance that I'm here."
"I didn't even sing on the first album. It wasn't my voice in the movie, even though I wanted to do it."
"I don't like cocky people. I'm such a regular dude. This whole celebrity thing is kind of akward for me. I feel like the kid that snuck into some party and shouldn't be there. Every morning I wake up and I'm like "I don't know what I did differently."
"I was raised agnostic, so we never practiced religion, but my parents were very strict."
"(about his teen days) I wore goofy hats to school and did musical theater. Most people thought I was a dork. But if you have a sense of humor about it, no one can bring you down."
(about the hardest part of doing musicals) "Oh man, I don't know. It's all fun, and the hardest part is probably the most fun part, as well. It's the preparation...it's like high school, you know? You come together with your best group of friends, and then you end it. It's like a really good summer camp."
"The fans make the person a star."
"A fan sent me a letter and a $10 bill. It's a short letter--all she said was, "Hey, since it's harder for you to go out these days without getting photographed, here $10 for a pizza." I was like, "Aww, she sent me money for a pizza so I could eat at home!"
"There's probably one instance I can think of when singing to a girl worked for me I've tried. As for dancing, you can't really go up to a girl and bust into a cool dance move."
"Honestly, if the worst these people can say about me is that I'm gay, then I think I'll be fine. I can handle it"
"I'm a guy, but i'm not afraid to cry. Not all of the time. But when i'm watching a movie, I'll sometimes shed a tear, especially Moulin Rouge"
"A girl can tell I like her when i blush or start telling bad jokes."
"I dont know if i believe in love at fist sight but of course i believe in two people having chemistry right away. A girl should be really easy to talk to. When i lose track of time because we've been talking, I think thats really fun."
"I'll never try to put on a fake image. I'm just Zac."
"One time I went into a restroom and a girl followed me in. I signed an autograph for her in the sink. It was pretty funny because she was in a guy's restroom and she wasn't embarrassed at all."
"I think if you're fame-hungry, go out to a nightclub and get drunk...why do that? I don't understand how some people would want fame so bad that they'd go out and get negative attention to earn it. "
"You always have to remember that bullies want to bring you down because you have something that they admire. Also, when you get made fun of-when people point out your weaknesses, it's an opportunity for you to rise above"
"If I splurge on anything, it's cologne. I love smelling good. "
"Amanda Bynes and I have become close since filming Hairsray. It's so weird because I grew up watching her."
" I don't have a Twitter, a MySpace or a Facebook or anything like that... I kind of value in people not knowing where I am or what I'm doing."
"Troy and Gabriella are very much like real high school kids. It's what high school romance should be like — not too lustful. I've always said that Troy and Gabriella were best friends before being boyfriend and girlfriend."
"(about the rumours of him and Vanessa Hudgens getting married)That was such bull. I’m definitely not getting married. In this business, you’re either getting married or they want you to be pregnant. I’m not getting married until I’m 40. If ever. The thought never crossed my mind.”
"“I’ve always been a fan of music. I love it. It’s my life, but at the same time, it’s not necessarily my passion to an extent where I want to create it and put it out there. I think that potentially it could be someday. I think the day I could make an album is the day I could write and produce it on my own terms and when I have the skills and wisdom to do it."
"(on getting slapped in 17 again) “It was amazing watching everybody have so much fun that night. No, it was funny, it started slow and Tom was very nice about it. He was like, ‘There’s no way to fake a slap. We’re just going to have to go for it’. And he did. He knew how to do it. We had a stunt coordinator that day who was instructing everyone how to slap and he goes, ‘You guys really got to sell it! You have to slap him!’ And I’m sitting there like ‘they’re slapping me, bro!’
"My mom asked me if I wanted to audition for musical theater because I was always singing and dancing around the house — they were pretty annoyed by this at the time. So, she asked if I wanted to go to Toys ‘R Us or somewhere one day because I had wanted to get an action figure or something. Little did I know, it was actually a trick. She dropped me off at this audition for Gypsy. I ran around in a news cap and sold newspapers. I got the part…I didn’t even get to go to Toys ‘R Us after.”
(about his relationship with Vanessa Hudgens) “I think that at that time, in that environment…it most definitely was [love at first sight]. I’ll never answer that for anyone else…except for Ashley."
(on working with Mathew Perry) “I was already familiar with Friends, so I didn’t have to sit and watch all the seasons or anything like that. He’s got incredible timing. … We rehearsed a lot together, and Matthew was always available to hang out and work with me on my part [so I could play a younger him]. And we kind of did become friends during filming.”
(on working with Vanessa Hudgens again) "“Sure, I hope so. It’s always great getting to work with your best friend.”
(on playing Basketball in 17 again) “It was originally in the script! I’m going to be honest — it was a plus. Like, all right, I can play basketball, and it’s a sport I feel you can show off in — which is important for this character and the movie. A pet peeve of mine is when people can’t actually do the sport that they are supposed to play on camera, so it’s nice to play basketball.”
(on fame) " “I used to get so frustrated. For a while, I felt like I was completely lost in celebrity-land. I didn’t know how to handle it. Now I know that I have to plot where I’m going, when I’m going there and where the back entrance is. It’s like I’m playing a giant game of tag.”"
" “My parents really kept us anchored. “I played sports on weekends — baseball, basketball — and when I sucked at those, I started playing golf and ping-pong in the garage. After I lost interest, I started singing. I was always singing to the point where my parents would shout, ‘Shut up, Zac! Enough already!’ I wasn’t a genius like some of my friends who slacked off and got A’s, but I was a hard worker. I always give 100%.”
“I’m definitely not the best actor in the world at this point. But hopefully, with time and effort and smart decisions, that will change.”
“I was alright in school [in basketball], I didn’t play on a team though. I had to learn for High School Musical and Corbin could spin the ball on his finger. I was jealous so I asked him to show me how to do it.”
“I’m looking at some furniture, because I just got a new place, so I’m figuring out if I want this desk. I’m sitting at it right now. It’s a vintage Herman Miller desk from, like, 1940-something. I don’t know . . . I’m just deciding if I’m going to want it in my house, or if I’m just going to completely wreck it. [laughs] Herman Miller’s stuff is really, really modern, but they have some pretty brilliant designs. [Ed note: Herman Miller is credited with inventing the office cubicle.] I’m sitting at this desk, and it’s the most well-built thing I’ve ever sat at . . . It’s a beautiful piece. It’s got this amazing wood grain that I’ve never seen in any piece of furniture. It’s also a little pricey. It’s at my house. I’m sitting at it right now. I just bought this place. It’s not big or anything, but it’s a pretty unique space. It’s very modern, very clean, very simple. It’s got concrete floors so I can’t screw it up. I can skateboard inside the house… You know, all the essentials are there.”
“There are a lot of young fans — they’re beautiful and they’re amazing — but it’s the moms that get absolutely crazy. There was one, I was at this signing and there were stairs you had to walk up and everyone was coming one at a time. There was this mom that was in a wheelchair and her daughter came up and got an autograph. And the mom was like, ‘I want one too,’ so she stands right up from the wheelchair and walks right up on stage. I was like, ‘Of course, you can have whatever you want.’ I signed like ten things for her and she walked back down, sat back in her wheelchair and rolled away.”
(on australian lingo)“I’m still rusty. I was giving an interview the other day and the lady was so nice, she was a sweetheart. We were laughing a lot and I said at the end of the interview, ‘I’m really rooting for you.” She went silent. ‘Hello, you still there?’ She started giggling pretty hard. I realized that that was a bad mistake. A couple days later [someone explained what 'root' meant to me].”
(on peforming with Hugh Jackman in the oscars)“It was, but there’s a a safety net. No one’s gonna start hackling you because Wolverine can literally just (makes gesture of strangling). It was fantastic, It was an honor to be up there with those guys. 100% [I get nervous]. I think the Oscars was the most nervous I’ve ever been in my entire life.”
(on packing for traveling) “My mistake is that I leave things home too much. I leave all the important things at home. I showed up here in Australia and I forgot socks.”
