Zac Efron might have dropped out of the remake of the '80s dance flick "Footloose," in order to pursue "the unknown," but the young star is definitely in the know about rumors that he'll star in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, along with a sequel to "Hairspray." But, why does he think his onscreen kiss in "17 Again" has ruined his chance of landing a role in a Judd Apatow movie?
Access Hollywood's Billy Bush caught up with the young star Thursday in Las Vegas, where he received the ShoWest Breakthrough Performer of the Year award.

Zac Efron: Why I Dropped Out of Footloose

"I was looking for a new challenge, and this was another musical," he tells US. He he dropped out of the Footloose remake because he wants to "grow a bit."
Efron says "it's hard" to pick one person's career to emulate, but ideally he'd like to follow in the footsteps of "anyone who has tried new things and isn't afraid to take risks. People that work hard. Leo [DiCaprio], Johnny [Depp], Michael J. Fox."
The actor says filming 17 Again made him "hungry for more". "It was a blast. It really turned things around for me," he says. "It was exciting, educational."
He's currently focusing on drama The Death & Life of Charlie St. Cloud, in which he plays a cemetery caretaker who has weekly meetings with his dead siblings. He also falls in love with a young woman who may have died in a sailing accident. ... Read More ...
Zac Efron: Rockets vs Lakers

Zac Efron watches the LA Lakers defeat the Houston Rockets, 93-81, at the Staples Center on Friday (April 3) in Los Angeles.
On Wednesday, the 21-year-old actor shot shirtless scenes for a new FunnyorDie video at Hairspray director Adam Shankman’s house in Hollywood.
The video, which was produced through Adam’s Offspring production company, will premiere in theaters as a lead-in to Zac’s new flick, 17 Again, out April 17.

Zac Efron shows off his Breakthrough Performer of the Year award at the ShoWest 2009 awards ceremony held at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas on Thursday evening (April 2).
The 21-year-old actor was honored for his performances in Hairspray and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event, shared, “His undeniable onscreen presence and charm have connected with fans around the world, and with the impending release of the comedy 17 Again, Zac Efron is poised to break out as a true Hollywood star. We are so pleased to be able to present him with the ShoWest 2009 Breakthrough Performer of the Year Award.”
Others honored included: Chris Pine, Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Leah Pipes, Jamie Chung, Audrina Patridge, Margo Harshman, Dennis Quaid, Rachel McAdams, Sienna Miller, Bradley Cooper, Michael Caine, directors Michael Bay and Zack Snyder.

Bonnie Wright flirting with CoStar Zac Efron

Zac Efron was in London last week to promote his new movie, 17 Again, and quickly became friends with his costar, Bonnie Wright, a.k.a. Ginni Weasley from the Harry Potter series. Witnesses claim that the two were seen hanging out around London, and a group of fans even noticed Bonnie forcibly giving Zac her cell phone number.
Bonnie allegedly grabbed Zac's cell phone from his back pocket, and started typing in (presumably) her own number. Wright's publicist quickly shot down the accusations claiming that the two "didn't speak at the premiere".

Father and son team Zac Efron and Sterling Knight make their way through a party in one of ten new clips from their upcoming movie, 17 Again, thanks to CinemaBlend.
In the flick, Zac, 21, plays the young version of Mike O’Donnell, a guy whose life didn’t quite turn out like he planned. One day he wishes he could go back to high school to change it all and he wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life.

The 20-year-old actress is in talks to join Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, Abbie Cornish and new lead Emily Browning in director Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch (he also helmed Watchmen).
Vanessa would star as Blondie in Sucker Punch, the story about a young girl (Browning) who is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.

On-and-off-screen couple Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens shoot a hilarious video on Tuesday (March 31) at a mansion in Los Feliz, Calif., for Will Ferrell's comedy site FunnyorDie.com.
Zac, 21, was seen walking around shirtless with a towel at a pool party. Also on set: Queen Latifah and Nicole Richie (with longtime love Joel Madden).
At one point, expectant mom Nicole and Joel were seen filming around a bush as Zac laid down below them. Nicole even Twitter-ed, "Just shot FunnyOrDie with Zac Efron. Me and VHud are besties."

Who knew Zac Efron was one of us? That is, a lover of an old-fashioned celebrity meltdown! But apparently Efron is, at least judging by his personal note to gossip blogger Perez Hilton. Hilton celebrated his 31st birthday at the Viper Room in Hollywood on Saturday night and although Efron couldn't make it to the party, he did send the Gossip Gangster a gift and card that read: "Perez, Happy Birthday, May this year bring you lots of love, luck, and celebrity meltdowns.
