Can Disney superstar Zac Efron escape his "High School Musical" past?-- "I'm growing up"
Even by Hollywood standards, Zac Efron has been blessed in the gene department. Sitting in a booth at Casa Vega, a Sherman Oaks, Calif., Mexican restaurant, it's hard not to be mesmerized by his eggshell-blue eyes lined with long lashes and that toothpaste-white smile peering out over the fish taco he's munching on. The gray knit beanie covering his head fails to prevent every waitress and female customer in this very dark joint from noticing the young star.
Still, as perhaps Efron understands better than most, life is not a Disney musical. "I'm at a transition point," Efron concedes, taking a measure of his current position in the Hollywood constellations. "My taste is changing. I'm growing up."
The 17 Again star says his and High School Musical co-star girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens enjoy watching movies but avoid busy evening screenings so they can have some privacy. He said: "That's probably like, the best thing to do - we just don't go on a Friday night or Saturday night. It'll be like 9am on a Tuesday."

Zac Efron makes a few jokes in these new promos for this week’s Saturday Night Live. The 21-year-old High School Musical hottie will be hosting this week with musical guests Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Tune into NBC this Saturday at 11:30/10:30c.
The LA Times is reporting that Zac has secured the lead role in the remake of the classic animated series Jonny Quest.

Zac Efron: ‘It Was Love At First Sight’

Zac Efron bobs his head up and down to Madcon's "Beggin'" on his iPhone during an interview with Ben Lyons on E's Daily 10.
The 21-year-old actor dished to E! on his relationship with on-and-off-screen girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens. Zac shared, "I think that at that time, in that environment... it most definitely was [love at first sight]. I'll never answer that for anyone else... except for Ashley." (JJJ note: Ashley is the little girl who asked the question.)
Zac also chatted about his decision to not pursue musicals at this time. He said, "I'm not done with musicals. I love them so much. It's just, at this particular moment, I think it's time to change it up. I gotta shake things up to keep it interesting for me. I don't want to be stagnant."

Zac Efron Enlists Celeb Pals for 'Pool Party from Hell'

He may be a big-screen star, but it's Zac Efron's Web video that has people talking this week. The cast of his upcoming feature, 17 Again, teamed up with a few celebrity pals recently to shoot a wacky video short for Efron's funnyordie.com debut, set to air Wednesday. You can view the PHOTOS HERE!
Brody Jenner, Joel Madden, Queen Latifah, Justin Long, Nicole Richie, Vanessa Hudgens, Carmen Electra, Brittany Snow and Lance Bass all take part in a "pool party from hell," according to 17 Again producer Adam Shankman who co-directed the FOD video.
"We wanted to do something goofy including cast members, but it wasn't a direct promotion," Shankman tells PEOPLE of the digital short. "It's very, very silly. It's Zac Efron's nightmare pool party where Tom Lennon and Nicole Sullivan, who are also in 17 Again play his white trash uncle and aunt and come and just humiliate him in front of a hip, young Hollywood crowd and they offend literally everybody in sight."

Zac Efron likes his privacy

A vast amount of celebrities utilize social network sites such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, but you won’t find Zac Efron on any of them.
In a recent interview, the “HSM” star said he has chosen not to get involved with these sites because he likes to have some privacy. He says, “I kind of value in people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing.”
When asked to demonstrate his sentiments towards the typical posting, Efron jokes: “I’m on the toilet. Still on the toilet. Guys, dot-dot-dot, out of TP. Still on the toilet.”, Mr. Efron joked, “I’m on the toilet. Still on the toilet. Guys, dot-dot-dot, out of TP. Still on the toilet.”
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old’s latest film, “17 Again,” will be making its way into theaters April 17th.

The 21-year-old actor recently chatted with ET about his upcoming flick, 17 Again. Zac shared, “At first on paper that was one of the weirdest parts [making out with Leslie Mann] of the movie to kind of wrap my head around. Then Leslie signed on to the movie and I was stoked. She’s awesome and beautiful and I’ve had a crush on her since I was 10 years old.”
17 Again hits theaters on NEXT Friday, April 17th.

Zac Efron caught up with MTV in Las Vegas after he received the Breakout Performer of the Year honors last Thursday (April 2).
The 21-year-old actor talked about basketball, working with Matthew Perry and keeping girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens in his long-term plans. Check it out:
On working side-by-side with Chandler Bing: "I was already familiar with Friends, so I didn't have to sit and watch all the seasons or anything like that. He's got incredible timing. ... We rehearsed a lot together, and Matthew was always available to hang out and work with me on my part [so I could play a younger him]. And we kind of did become friends during filming."
On playing basketball, once again, on film: "It was originally in the script! I'm going to be honest -- it was a plus. Like, all right, I can play basketball, and it's a sport I feel you can show off in -- which is important for this character and the movie. A pet peeve of mine is when people can't actually do the sport that they are supposed to play on camera, so it's nice to play basketball."
On hoping to work with Vanessa Hudgens again: "Sure, I hope so. It’s always great getting to work with your best friend."

Zac Efron made his name with kid-friendly movies, but now the Disney prince has dumped his squeaky-clean image to move on to more adult projects.
The High School Musical heartthrob has signed on to star in '17 Again' and has been working out for his topless scenes. In this film, he tries to bed an older woman and gets propositioned by a string of admirers.
Zac, now 21, said that when he was a teenager he wasn't good at attracting girls. 'There were lots of girls that I liked that didn't like me back,' the News of the World quoted him, as saying.
However, in the new film 'I could do everything I wanted to at 17 but didn't get the chance to! I was doing musical theatre in high school and that wasn't necessarily the coolest thing to be a part of,' the actor added.
Fears over the film's raunchy content have led UK censors to rate it 12A ahead of its release on Friday. 'The sex references are just too much for a PG film,' a source said.
